Wind Farms
Inspections for Owners, OEMs, ISPs, and landowners
The use of UAV technology on wind farms is well established and is seen as the way forwards for detailed scheduled inspections of major components like blades and towers for example. The use of robotics, AI, and Lidar are commonplace technologies providing high end data and reporting enabling utility scale owners to make informed decisions on blade maintenance and repair campaigns minimising down time and costs.
Typically the teams involved come a long way to the highlands and stay locally whilst the drone inspection campaign is underway. Days lost to weather are chargeable as are the costs to mobilise the teams in the first place. These costs are budgeted for and expected in the overall campaign and normally compensated for by the savings made from pre-emptive maintenance and repair.

However utilising Highlands Inspection Company for more urgent bespoke tasks throughout the year makes perfect sense. With much reduced or nil mobilisation costs throughout the area we can offer a rapid response at a vastly reduced cost and turn around the image processing in the same time.
As a highland born and based business we can offer reduced mileage costs, reduced transport CO2 emissions and demonstrate the social benefits enshrined in corporate ESG targets associated with the Social pillar. In short HIC can compliment the larger scheduled campaigns with a rapid response "call out" type service throughout the year.

HIC offers infra red imaging as well as RGB imaging. Wind farm owners ask us in to undertake routine IR imaging of major components like this transformer. Whether all is well or anomalies are present presumption increases risk and HIC reduces it.

Balance of plant can often be overlooked but with site owners and managers having a duty of care along with the Right to Roam in Scotland a short drone inspection of this met mast and getting up close can provide peace of mind

Following a thermal incident at a wind farm in Scotland HIC was able to provide the site owner with high resolution images illustrating the extent of damage prior to further investigative works involving personnel. Safety first!
